Connected, Unseen I
Connected, Unseen I draws on rhizomatic thinking to explore connection to place and the unseen systems that shape how we relate to our environments. It reflects on what is lost and what continues to grow, both within ourselves and in the landscapes we inhabit, grounded in a material-led practice and an interest in the liminal spaces where intuition begins to surface.

Connected, Unseen II
The second in the series, Connected, Unseen II moves beyond literal root forms, exploring rhizomatic connections that reveal the subtle, non-linear networks linking self and environment. The work considers how unseen systems persist and how growth continues along paths that are not immediately visible.

Connected, Unseen III
Returning to more root-like structures, the third work, Connected, Unseen III, examines the ongoing interplay between internal experience and external landscapes. The roots suggest patterns of continuity and renewal, revealing how growth and connection persist over time.

Connected, Unseen IV
In Connected, Unseen IV, the roots feel their way across perceived terrain, exploring the liminal spaces where intuition and materiality meet. The work considers how unseen currents guide growth, and how subtle connections shape both self and place.

Connected, Unseen V
The fifth in the series, Connected, Unseen V, depicts roots that seep downward, seeking and tracing the invisible threads that sustain growth and connection. It reflects on the unseen persistence of life, within ourselves and the environments we inhabit.

Connected, Unseen VI
Connected, Unseen VI sprawls in a more rhizome-like manner, mapping expansive, non-linear connections that extend beyond visible boundaries. The work reflects on how growth, memory, and intuition continue to unfold across both internal and environmental landscapes.

Surface & Substrate | Panel I
The first panel from the triptych explores the tension between what is visible and what lies beneath. Rich, warm tones and textured layers trace hidden connections, revealing traces of growth and the passage of time.

Surface and Substrate | Panel II
In the second panel of the triptych, textures deepen and surfaces fracture, evoking the dynamic interplay between external perception and the subtle structures beneath. Warm hues suggest vitality emerging from hidden systems.

Surface & Substrate | Panel III
The final panel spreads and intertwines across the page, merging surface and substrate. Roots and marks move with both tension and flow, reflecting the layered, gritty complexity of growth and connection beneath what we see.

About
Kate Brown is a visual artist working intuitively with a broad range of materials. Based in North Yorkshire, she has maintained a lifelong engagement with art, studying Fine Art at university and currently undertaking the first year of a two-year MFA. Her practice continues to develop through this postgraduate study, deepening her exploration of process, materiality, and the relationship between people and place.
Her work is strongly informed by the surrounding landscape, particularly the transience of nature and the shifting seasons. Drawing on foraged materials and expansive northern landscapes, her pieces capture the quiet moments, and subtle rhythms of life often overlooked, evoking emotion and reflection.
Kate has exhibited internationally, including in the UK, Japan, and Germany, and continues to evolve her practice through ongoing experimentation with presence, impermanence, and the ways natural materials can carry memory and meaning.
